FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How often should I visit the dentist?

A. For most patients, scheduling a dental exam and professional cleaning every six months is the best way to maintain healthy teeth and gums. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends routine preventive visits twice a year, and our practice encourages the same schedule unless we recommend more frequent care based on your individual needs.

Q. What should I do if I have a dental emergency?

A. If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, contact our office as soon as possible. During normal business hours, we’ll do everything we can to see you promptly. If your emergency occurs after hours, on weekends, or during a holiday, call our office and follow the recorded instructions to reach the dentist on call.

Q. What type of toothbrush is best?

A. A soft-bristled toothbrush with a small or medium-sized head is the best choice for most adults. It allows you to clean every surface of your teeth, including those hard-to-reach areas in the back of your mouth. Children should use age-appropriate toothbrushes with soft bristles, and patients with sensitive teeth or gums often benefit from extra-soft bristles.

Q. When should I replace my toothbrush?

A. A good rule of thumb is to replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed or worn. A worn toothbrush won’t clean as effectively. Children’s toothbrushes often need to be replaced more frequently because they tend to wear out faster.

Q. Is an electric toothbrush better than a manual toothbrush?

A. Both electric and manual toothbrushes can provide excellent results when used properly. An electric toothbrush may be especially helpful for children, individuals with limited hand mobility, or anyone who finds it easier to brush effectively with a powered brush.

Q. Should I floss before or after brushing?

A. The order isn’t as important as making sure you do both every day. Many dental professionals recommend flossing first because it removes plaque and debris from between the teeth, allowing the fluoride in your toothpaste to reach those areas more effectively during brushing.

Q. Which toothpaste should I use?

A. Choose a fluoride toothpaste that has earned the ADA Seal of Acceptance. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel, helps protect against cavities, and supports long-term oral health. Most fluoride toothpastes are effective, so selecting one you enjoy using regularly is often the most important factor.

Q. Do you offer payment options?

A. Yes. We accept most major credit cards and work with many dental insurance providers. As a courtesy, our team will submit your insurance claims on your behalf. Any estimated patient portion, such as your co-payment, is due at the time of your visit. If you have questions about payment or insurance coverage, our team is happy to help.
